Six time Champion Guard Rail was one of the most prepotent sires in the history of the breed. While best known for the multitude of field trial winners that he produced, he sired many more class gun dogs. Bob Wehle recognized Guard Rail's prepotency and bred Elhew Italy x Elhew Huckatuck daughter, Elhew Round About, to him. This breeding produced Elhew Kiwi, considered by many to be Elhew Kennel's all time best producing female.

  • 5xCH/7xRU CH Westfall's Black Ice

HOF CH Rock Acre Blackhawk x Elhew Katie Lee x HOF CH Elhew Snakefoot

Ice is a multiple shooting dog champion with a pedigree to back it up. He is out of the very successful nick of Rock Acre Blackhawk x Elhew Katie Lee whose progeny included many field trial winners and even more outstanding wild bird dogs.

Ice was always impressive in the field and racked up championship win after championship win. But we liked Ice perhaps even more because of his temperament. His beautiful brown eyes were intelligent and displayed a calmness and good disposition. Ice was handsome, too. He was black-and-white with an evenly marked head. He was lightly ticked and had no body spots.

Even though Ice himself was bred sparingly during his lifetime, he had the pre-potency of his sire and produced an impressive list of field trial winners. His numbers are 34-24-213.

I have no doubt that he'll win a major field trial championship."

  • Lexington Jake

Most pointer enthusiast is familiar with Lexington Jake as being the dog in which the Elhew Pointer Line was based on, with many of the Elhew leading sires tracing back to Lexington Jake. Just to mention a few of them on the sire line, would be Elhew Marksman, Elhew Jungle, and Elhew Huckleberry. Ironically, when Wehle out crossed on his Elhew Line, whether purposely or not, it would sometimes be to a dog that was also a product of the Lexington Jake sire line, dogs like Red Water Rex and Hooks Bounty Hunter.
